In life I prefer the quiet beauty of the natural world but in my art I'm often drawn to include elements of the manmade. The patterns, colours and light that I see in both environments inspire me.

I’m interested in the way that light interacts with the atmosphere. I love a moody sunset, a starry night sky, and the wonder of the northern lights but I‘m equally captivated by the glow of a neon sign on a wet road or the twinkling of city lights in the distance.

I can get lost in the abstract patterns of a city viewed from above, and I'm fascinated by visual distortion, such as the soft blur of bokeh, the abstraction of a cityscape seen through a rainy window, and the way sunlight refracts on water and dapples through leaves.

I don’t have a deep and meaningful artist statement as to why I want to paint these things; I'm just hoping to capture the mood that each of those subjects evoke in me.
