Hello.

A Wee Bit About Me

Nic McLean artist and illustrator

I'm an Irish artist and illustrator living in Scotland. I use traditional painting techniques in acrylic and gouache to create colourful landscapes and animal artwork, and the digital magic of Procreate to create illustrations with a nostalgic, hand-drawn feel, seeking to re-imagine a more whimsical world where anything is possible.

When I'm not painting or illustrating I can mostly be found  with my head in a book curled up beside my cat, Delilah, or walking on the beach with my dog, Bonnie where she searches for sticks and I search for hag stones.

I am also part of the Art of Compassion Project, a world-wide collective of artists using art to raise funds for, and awareness of different, animal charities that promote a kinder more compassionate way of life for all animals. I am proud to have been interviewed for A Bright Clean Mind - Veganism for Creative Transformation by Camille DeAngelis, had my artwork published in The Art of Compassion Coffee Table Book, and my poetry included in the Even In My Dreams Poetry Collection edited by Emma Letessier.

The Goodship Illustration Picture Book Course Attendee

I have dreamed of writing and illustrating picture books forever but, as often happens, life got in the way. However, after obtaining a first class BA Honours degree in 2023 in English Literature with Creative Writing (which included children's literature modules) and, more recently, having completed The Goodship Illustration Picture Book Course, I am more inspired than ever to bring that dream to life and create my very own happy ever after.
